We're all in this together

Over the long holiday weekend, we found out that Macdonough School has suffered damage from a water leak and will be closed for most of this week. If this had happened last summer, Kindergarten Kickstart would likely have been shut down, but fortunately now we have access to most Green Street Arts Center's fantastic facility to quickly build our back-up plan!

Here's the schedule we used today to split the GSAC space:

Each group has one half-hour block for each meal, one for circle time, and two each for centers and outdoor play. We'll do our special afternoon activities as one large group in the arts cafe.

Today at Farm Hill School Kindergarten Kickstart:
  • It's Food Week! We learned about trying new foods (even when we're sure we don't like them) and "don't yuck my yum" with Dr. Seuss's "Green Eggs and Ham" during circle time, and later read "Bread and Jam for Frances," the story of Frances and the plight of her being cursed with only bread and jam all day long after she refuses to eat anything else.
  • Today we've had cereal and peaches for breakfast and bananas and veggie sticks (which I introduced as "colored chips" - I only confessed that they were disguised vegetables after all the kids had tasted and approved) for snack.
  • During centers, Miss Olivia worked on writing letters, names and stories, and I played Pizza Math with a few students. G came over to me to report that A had helped her. She put a stone in the bucket for her friend. She gets it.
It's quiet time now! Another update coming soon!
